How to Care for Your Vinyl Graphics (And Make Them Last)

You've invested in quality vinyl graphics for your vehicle or business. Now let's make sure they look great for years to come. Here's everything you need to know about caring for your vinyl.
The First 72 Hours: Critical Curing Time
After installation, your vinyl needs time to fully adhere to the surface. During the first 72 hours:
- Don't wash the vehicle or graphic
- Avoid rain if possible (park in a garage)
- Don't touch or rub the edges
- Keep away from high-pressure water
This curing period allows the adhesive to fully bond with the surface, ensuring maximum durability.
Regular Washing: The Right Way
Clean vinyl lasts longer. Dirt, grime, and pollutants can degrade the vinyl over time. Here's how to wash properly:
✅ DO:
- Hand wash with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth
- Use mild automotive soap (dish soap works too)
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Wash in the shade or on a cool surface
- Dry with a clean microfiber towel
- Wash at least once every two weeks
❌ DON'T:
- Use automatic car washes with brushes (touchless is OK)
- Use pressure washers above 1,200 PSI
- Spray directly at edges or seams
- Use abrasive cleaners or scrub brushes
- Let bird droppings, tree sap, or bugs sit for days
- Wax over matte or textured finishes
Dealing with Stubborn Contaminants
Sometimes regular washing isn't enough. Here's how to handle tough stuff:
Bird droppings & bug splatter: Soak with warm, soapy water for a few minutes, then gently wipe away. Don't scrape or pick at it.
Tree sap: Use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) on a soft cloth. Dab gently—don't rub aggressively.
Fuel spills: Wipe immediately with a wet cloth, then wash the area with soap and water. Fuel can damage vinyl if left to sit.
Graffiti or paint overspray: Contact us before attempting removal. We have specialized products that won't damage your wrap.
Parking and Storage Tips
Where you park matters more than you might think:
- Park in shade when possible—UV rays are the #1 cause of vinyl fading
- Use a garage for overnight storage if available
- Avoid parking under trees that drop sap or berries
- In winter, brush off snow gently—don't use ice scrapers on wrapped surfaces
When to Call the Pros
Some issues need professional attention:
- Edges lifting or peeling
- Bubbles appearing under the vinyl
- Significant scratches or tears
- Fading that washing doesn't fix
- Damage from accidents or vandalism
Most minor issues can be repaired without replacing the entire wrap. The sooner you address problems, the easier (and cheaper) they are to fix.
